LeFleur Institute
By developing documentary film, photography, oral histories and field research we preserve knowledge carried by people, communities and places. We create films that invite the public into these stories, and behind each production, we build and share a complete record necessary for future generations to understand cultures from around the world.
We are building a permanent documentary institution devoted to exploration, preservation and responsible access.
The Institute’s established positioning treats films as the public expression of a deeper archival mission rather than the totality of the work.

Each partnership is developed around the specific needs of the project and may extend from early research and fieldwork through production, preservation, education and public presentation.
Fellows & Visiting Contributors
LeFleur Institute offers fellowship opportunities for filmmakers, historians, researchers, photographers, writers and field practitioners to further the Institute’s mission.
Fellows contribute to active projects, original research, archival development and public scholarship while gaining meaningful experience within a working documentary institution.

Support does not purchase editorial influence. It strengthens the infrastructure that allows independent documentation, responsible preservation and public access to endure.

LeFleur Institute Fellowships support filmmakers, researchers, historians, photographers, writers and field practitioners pursuing meaningful work in history, culture, exploration and the natural world.
Fellows conduct original research and documentation while contributing to a lasting record that can inform future films, scholarship, education and discovery.
